As you get older, it’s natural to experience the early signs of aging. You may lose fat in your face, giving you a gaunt appearance, and develop unsightly wrinkles and fine lines. There is also a notable stretching of skin that happens as you get older. The collagen and elastin breaks down, which in turn leads to a gradual loss of facial fullness.

Exposure to the sun, lifestyle changes, weight loss, changes in bone density, and heredity are other factors that can have a hazardous effect on facial skin. This, in turn, can accelerate the formation of wrinkles. If you want younger and smoother looking skin without having to go under the knife, you should consider trying injectable fillers. One of the most popular and effective  injectables is Juvederm.

What is Juvederm and How Does It Work?

Juvederm® is a gel containing hyaluronic acid and belongs to the family of dermal fillers. This sugar-based substance found in the body targets the root cause of wrinkles and fixes them right at the source. Even though the results are not permanent, they can last up to a year.

The main role of Juvéderm is to maintain hydration. The area where this gel is injected plumps up the skin, thereby giving your face a fuller and more youthful look. Juvederm targets the fine lines and wrinkles that appear around the nose, mouth, and forehead. A regular session will be less than an hour without any downtime.

Juvederm® is good for treating crow’s feet, wrinkles, nasolabial folds (lines from nose to the mouth), and marionette lines (lines on the lateral side of your lower lip) among others. This treatment is temporary, but you can expect results to last up to a year.

Types of Juvederm

There are different types of juvederm injectables, each with their own unique properties and benefits. The type of gel that is required for you will be determined by your plastic surgeon. Listed below are the four most common formulas:

1. Juvéderm Vollure™ XC

Juvéderm Vollure XC helps treat severe facial lines around the sides of the mouth, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. The results of this relatively new treatment in the Juvéderm line can last up to 18 months.

2. Juvéderm® ULTRA XC

The FDA-approved Juvederm Ultra XC is best suited to treat wrinkles that run from the nose to the mouth, commonly known as laugh lines or smile lines. It also helps in correcting lip lines, forehead wrinkles, and wrinkles that appear around the corners of the mouth.

3. Juvéderm Volbella® XC

Juvéderm Volbella XC is meant to bring back the original volume to the lips and properly define the corners around the mouth. This is the only dermal filler that has been proven to last up to 12 months.

4. Juvéderm VolumA® XC

Juvéderm Voluma is best for those who have experienced a significant decrease in cheek volume, sagging cheeks, and the loss of curve around the chin.

Treatment Process and Maintenance

Every dose of Juvederm® has Lidocaine, a pain-killing anesthetic. You might feel a slight prick when the needle touches your skin, but there’s not much discomfort associated with this treatment. It can be done in as little as 30 minutes and patients can return to their normal routine soon after.
