Are you feeling frustrated with forehead lines and wrinkles? Many people feel that way as they start to age. Lines and wrinkles in this area can make you look tired, angry, and older than you feel.
At the Plastic Surgery Center of Dallas, empathetic board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rachel Walker understands. She believes you deserve to feel youthful and beautiful again, and that’s why we offer a few different options to achieve that. Botox® and brow lift solve some of the same concerns, but they have opposite approaches. Here’s what to know about each and how to compare the two.
Brow Lift: The Surgical Approach
It’s common to experience gradual brow descent as you age, but a brow lift can correct that problem. In this surgery, Dr. Walker expertly removes excess skin and fat, then elevates the eyebrows to their position from when you were younger. A brow lift also smooths out forehead wrinkles and may improve the appearance of the upper eyelids. There are several brow lift options, each with different incisions and degrees of correction. These include:
- Traditional brow lift: A traditional brow lift features an incision in the hairline. It offers dramatic improvement of brow position and significant wrinkle reduction.
- Endoscopic brow lift: An endoscopic brow lift features tiny incisions and a miniature camera. Dr. Walker can correct minor or moderate brow sagging with very little scarring using this minimally invasive approach. It can provide beautiful results but is less extensive than a traditional brow lift.
- Temporal brow lift: Another minimally invasive approach, a temporal brow lift features twin 2-3 inch long incisions in the right and left sides of the scalp. It lifts the temple and sides of the brows but doesn’t address the middle of the forehead.
Brow lift results generally last years, so they’re a long-term solution for forehead frustrations.
Botox: Brow Lift in a Syringe
Botox is a non-surgical alternative that temporarily smooths wrinkles and fine lines around the forehead. This injectable acts on the muscles that cause frown lines, forcing them to move slower. Botox can also subtly lift your brows, resulting in a more youthful and refreshed look without surgery.
A big benefit of Botox is that it requires no downtime. Effective though it can be, Botox is temporary, lasting three to four months, and the effects aren’t as complete as with a brow lift. With Botox, you need regular treatments to maintain results.
